OSYMANDIAS
With thirst and hunger,
I crawled ‘cross the lands of dust and bone.
Amidst the sands,
All I found was a stone,
Upon which stood his legs
And nothing else ,
But his head and a grin
Of pride and arrogance.
On the stone were inscribed the words,
Which changed me forever:
“My name is Ozymandias,
King of Kings.
Look upon my works , Ye Mighty,
And Despair!”
But amidst the sands,
‘Cross which I crawled,
Could not be found,
His Glory.
Nothing else of his was found:
Nor his mighty power,
Nor his empire mighty.
Nothing else of his was found,
But his besmeared visage
And his tarnished and broken trunk.
Learnt now was I
That the mightiest of the mountains
Weather to sands by the act of winds.
It’s a rendition of the ‘Ozymandias’ by PB Shelley. Here, the emphasis is on the power of time against the original where the emphasis was on the power of nature.
